bio « Theo Bremer Bennett

After a hiatus off the musical map that would make the Blue Nile blush with embarrassment and shame, Theo Bremer-Bennett returns with a collection of keepers.

Theo is a singer/songwriter of no fixed hairstyle hailing from the dubious byways of Gallup, New Mexico. He thought he had retired from stage and screen, but maybe not, who knows– he is getting kind of old for all this business. But somehow he can’t scratch music from his soul. And 70 is the new 30, right? That makes him about 8.

His greatest claim to fame was with the Gadflys– the Wheaton version. He has also played with the likes of “Reflections at 12,” “_ton bundle,” “Dickie Chavez’s Cumbia Rancheras,” “Theo and the Invisible Mariachis,” “The Guevarra Rock Trio,” and currently makes regular contributions to the hillbilliphonics of the “Gutbucket Blues Band,” and the steel percussive stylings of the bossa/reggae group “Carribe.”

His current endeavors include various soundtrack projects for film and TV, but his heart remains heavily in the brit pop 3 minute song. Influences include the likes of the Waterboys, Echo and the Bunnymen, U2, Blue Nile, Harrod and Funck, Dylan, Marley, Lanois, Lennon/Mc, Van the Man,…. he can recite most any of  Bruce Cockburn’s pre-rocket launcher lyrics. (yes, he stole his glasses back in 7th grade and never looked back.) His unachievable goal is to marry the sonic complexities of Ocean Rain, the passionate melodic deliveries of Paul Buchanan, and the depth and wordcraft of Cockburn.

He is currently listening to the likes of Arcade Fire, the La’s, various Gospel and Motown artists, John Tavener, Belle and Sebastian, the Radiohead, the Rutles, Badly Drawn Boy, Innocence Mission, Burt Bacharach, Damien Rice, Earlimart, Rob Bell (and Don Golden), English Beat, Fela and Femi Kuti, Soundtrack of our Lives, Hooverphonic, Iron and Wine, The Jam, Emmylou Harris, Joseph Arthur, Kashmere Stage Band, Keane, Kings of Convenience, Doves, the New Pornographers, Sigur Ros, Sufjan Stevens, Swell Season to name but a few.

He is married to the amazing Carol Bremer-Bennett, truly a story unto herself, and together they are raising a beautiful and shy 13 year old, an effervescent and determined 7 year old, and a gregarious and ever-smiling 1 year old, with the hopefully soon adopted additions of an unforgettable 15 year old and dear 12 year old.
